Midway Elementary Joins Forces with YES Program to Help Students
Midway Elementary is so excited to be associated with the YES of Baldwin County Afterschool Program. As a new addition to the YES Program, we are extremely excited about the sixty-one 5th graders and their families who have committed to this program and its mission.
Already we are seeing students succeed in assignments and concepts they were struggling with during the day. Academically, we have been reviewing mathematical equations involving decimals and rounding numbers to different place values, as well as, addressing literary devices such as parts of speech and analyzing the content of stories.
Our Enrichment sessions have greatly enhanced our afternoons by giving the students an opportunity to participate in both physical and mental activities. Highlights have included color-by-numbers in Spanish, learning “Thriller” moves in Dance, and creating self-portraits and scratch-art in Art. In PE the students are earning “shoe tokens” by completing 2.5 mile walks, with the challenge of completing a marathon by the end of the year.
Thank you so much for your support and insight as we continue to develop this new program.
